Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Days

Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Days are held twice a year – in the spring and fall. The next event is May 3, 2025, at the Crapo Hill Landfill, 300 Samuel Barnet Blvd. New Bedford, from 8:30 am to noon. The next Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Day is on May 3, 2025 at the Crapo Hill Landfill, 300 Samuel Barnet Blvd. New Bedford, from 8:30 am to noon.

The event is for New Bedford, Dartmouth, and Freetown residents only. Proof of residency is required. Collection is for households only. No businesses, schools, or contractors.

The maximum amount you can bring is 25 gallons or 25 pounds.

Gasoline (at the event, you can request to have your gas can emptied and returned to you)
Household cleaners

Roofing tar
Septic tank degreasers
Solvents & varnishes
Stains, thinners and strippers
Swimming pool chemicals
Turpentine

Don’t Bring These

NO Ammunition, fireworks & explosives
NO Antifreeze (take to your town’s transfer station or recycling center)
NO Asbestos
NO Commercial or industrial wastes
NO Electronics (if accepted, take to Best Buy or Staples)
NO Empty containers (discard in trash)
NO Fire extinguishers
NO Fluorescent light bulbs and mercury containing devices (take to your town’s transfer station or participating retailers)
NO Infectious & biological waste
NO Latex paint (dry out & discard in trash)
NO Motor oil (take to your town’s transfer station or participating motor oil retailers)
NO Propane tanks (take empty tanks to your town’s transfer station or recycling center)
NO Radioactive waste (smoke detectors)
NO TVs or computer monitors (take to your town’s transfer station or recycling center)

Directions to Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Day

The event takes place at the Crapo Hill Landfill, 300 Samuel Barnet Blvd., New Bedford. Please take 7 off Route 140 and enter through the New Bedford Business Park on Braley Road. Once you enter the park, you will pass the Registry of Motor Vehicles on your left. Follow the lawn signs that will be posted to help guide you through the business park to the landfill.

**Please note that traffic flows in one direction at this event; the only way to enter is through the New Bedford Business Park.

On the Day of the Event:

Please remember the event will be held rain or shine.
Arrive as close to your time slot as possible to reduce wait times.
Place household hazardous waste in the trunk, pickup truck bed, or back of SUV.
Be prepared to show proof of residency.
Stay in your vehicle.
